Today’s hybrid and electric vehicles are far advanced from the traditional 12V based combustion engine vehicles. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) utilize a 48V battery system complementing the 12V system and pure electric vehicles (EV) can utilize 12V, 48V, 400V and even 800V to support the powertrain and driver features. All of these voltages create a very large and complex electrical power plant requiring many voltage converters for high-voltage conversions to various loads with high density, light weight and high efficiency.

Power solutions for hybrid and pure electric vehicles

12V, 48V, 400V and 800V conversions are supported by DCM, BCM, and NBM power modules. These modules provide options for regulated, fixed ratio, isolated, non-isolated and bidirectional power solutions. One example is the NBM2317 used for bridging 12V and 48V systems:
